Real life Stories

Sylvia Atkins:
When I was 10 years of age, my mother was invited to a Pentecostal service. At the time she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, as my father was a very heavy drinker and was drunk several times a week. As a result of my mother's visit to the church, she gave her heart to the Lord, and invited me to attend the Sunday School.

Although our home was far from being Christian, I'd always gone to Sunday School, but found it dull and uninteresting. When I first entered the door of that place I was so surprised to see a room full of children of all ages actually enjoying themselves and taking a part in everything that was going on!

From then on, there was no looking back, and after a few weeks, I too asked the Lord Jesus to be my personal Saviour. By this time, my father thought my mother and I had religious "mania" - going to church many times a week. The people at the church prayed that God would change him, and after two years, he too came along to a Sunday School prize giving, and there he gave his life to Christ. What a change came over our family!

As the verse in 2 Corinthians 6 v17 states, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" . Several other people in my family also came to know the Lord as a result.

I was baptised in water at the age of 12 and shortly afterwards was baptised in the Holy Spirit, with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. In my early teens I became involved with Sunday School and children's work and continue to do so now at SCC. I praise God for His leading and direction over the years for myself and my family. We have 5 children who are all actively involved in the Lord's work, and 2 grandchildren (Daniel & Grace).

I can truly say that the Lord has met our every need and I wholeheartedly recommend committing your life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
